Race #10

Since we had to drop race 7 and it was a Regatta Race, we decided before the race to have someone neutral on the RC boat instead of Des, whose turn it was, and score this race as if it were the first race of the Regatta Series. Should be fair for all.

It sure was fair for Doug and Scott who came from behind to finish One Two. Well done.

Rex, Ray and Dave C started first with Walker and Des and Dave in the next group. Dave C had a great start and held it to the weather mark and back down.  Walker and Des were right on him all the way. Dave had a good leg the second time up and was up with the leaders. I on the other hand never saw the leaders except when they were going the other way. I spent my time trying to keep up with Jack, then keep up with Curt, then keep up with Jim and try to stay ahead of Joe. Curt,Jim, Joe and I were kind of stuck back there trying to make something happen. Trying to find that lift that will make a difference and catch us up all at once. Wasn’t to be.

There was a lift up the middle on starboard tack if you could find it. It didn’t take you right to the mark but to the point of land on the right. I saw Dave catch it on the 2nd time up, I saw Mike catch it for a while on the 3rd time up. Doug told me later he caught it twice, 3rd and 4th time up. Apparently Scott did too because they finished neck and neck

Speaking of Neck and Neck, Des and Dave C changed leads several times and it was a photo finish at the end with Des crossing just ahead of Dave C. Mike and Jack battled all day and Mike got him with that lift.

Curt did something the last time up, must have gone left, Jim and I and Joe went right and Curt got a 7th and we were all in double digits. Curt called to say he would come up next weekend and work with us if we wanted. He is so gracious that way.  I caught a little lift on the last time up which put me to weather of Jim, who I followed all day, so then I put the nose down and caught up to him, putting my boat between him and the mark. Got Cha. Once there I covered every tack he made and was able to hold him off. Small victory coming in 11th. But it was a great day for sailing.

Ray says he is going to practice some more, I think he can be a competitor after some hours under his belt.

We had 17 boats on the water folks, that’s our top turnout this year. I’ve been to Regattas with fewer boats turning up. That was a fantastic show.  Thanks everyone for coming out. I was really cool to be among that many boats.

The results are as follows:

Doug, Scott, Dave, Walker

Mike, Jack, Curt, Des

Dave C, Bruce, Peter, Jim

Skip, Joe, Ray, Rex

With two drops, Series: Jack and Dave tied at 29,, Mike at 33, Jim at 34

Regatta after two races: Walker 6,  Dave 7, Doug 8 and Mike 10

Others who are close, Jack 12, Scott 15, Joe 16, Des and Bruce 10, Curt and Jim at 20

Final Regatta next week, Be there.

Thanks

peter
