8/21/11                                  3rd Issue

Spectators:  We are providing this guide to help you better understand and therefore enhance your enjoyment of watching the sailboat races.

The attached Worksheet is for the Race Committee to score the boats as they finish.

Here are a few highlights of what is on that Worksheet.

The top information identifies today’s race, and the conditions.

Then some reminders for the people managing today’s race.

On the far right is the race committee equipment list and some more reminders.

The main part of the page includes the Sail number and Sailors name, and a blank space to mark where the boat finishes today.  The next column shows the Current Points. The lower the number of points the better the score. We score by giving the first place finisher one point, 2 for second etc. So we add all the points for the season so far and put them in this column. You can see that currently has  points and is  therefore in first place before today’s race. Knowing this you can see who has to finish ahead of whom in order to improve his chances of finishing in the top 4 places, each of which will receive a trophy.

We have a handicap system. Boats that finish in the top three positions in any race then have to start 2 minutes after the first start. Boats that finish twice in the top three positions have to start 5 minutes behind the first start. We have color coded the Worksheet to show which boats will be starting 2 minutes back, yellow, and which are 5 minutes back, green. Those not colored start at the first start.

The Worksheet also shows the horn sequence at the start.

To see the finish results of today’s race check out the web page at www.lauderdalesailingclub.com. The results as well as a write up on today’s race will be posted by Tuesday evening.

If you would like to be on the mailing list or have other questions about the race, send your email to: pvk@elknet.net.

NEW: Today’s race is the Last in the Summer series sponsored by the LLYC. The top 4 after two races are:

Jack   30  pts

Doug     36 pts

Peter    38  pts

Curt , Des,  Mike with a three way tie for 4th place with 48 pts

Short of Jack tipping over he is going to be very tough to beat. Doug and I are going to be doing all that’s possible to get ahead and stay there. Let’s hope for some heavy wind. And keep an eye on that race for 4th, those are three good sailors so at this point it’s anyone’s call.

Thanks for watching

peter
